Allen Robinson was the top wide receiver target of the offseason and will now sign with the Chicago Bears. Robinson gets a good contract coming off of a knee injury and needed to go somewhere that he can be a true number one receiver. The Bears need someone for Mitchell Trubisky to throw the ball to as he continues to grow into an NFL quarterback.
Allen Robinson is used to playing with young quarterbacks as he has been playing with Blake Bortles for the last four years and should get the most out of Trubisky. Robinson is coming off of a torn ACL, but less talented players have comeback from worse and he should be able to bounce back rather quickly. Robinson has averaged just under five catches a game with an average of 66 yards a game. This includes the atrocious 2016 season when Jacksonville’s offense struggled entirely under then head coach, Gus Bradley. Missing the 2017 season certainly hurt his numbers as Doug Marrone turned the Jags around last season, but Robinson should have a good bounce back year in 2018.
Coming from a system that knows how to use their offensive players, Matt Nagy will get the most out of Trubisky, especially with a player like Robinson. He made Alex Smith look like the guy that was drafted with the first overall pick in 2005 and had the Chiefs offense thriving for the first half of the 2017 season. They dropped off a little bit towards the end, but the fact that Nagy is young and has had success in the NFL should make their offense more fun to watch than when the Bears were last season under Jon Fox.

The Bears can now look more into cornerbacks in the NFL draft because they have checked off their number one receiver box. This won’t stop them from drafting another receiver on day two as it is a deep position and they could still use receiving help, but it doesn’t mean that they have to take one with the eighth overall pick in this draft. With Robinson, Trubisky and Jordan Howard, the Bears’ offense should be fun to watch in the coming years. The Bears still aren’t contenders in the NFC North with this move, but it is a move in the right direction and if they have good drafts in 2018 and 2019, the Bears could be a force in the coming years.
