There is a new number one team now that the Patriots are no longer unbeaten. There is another team that is no longer unbeaten in the Baltimore Ravens and one less winless team in the Chicago Bears. The biggest jump this week belongs to the Bills after they were able to shutout the Patriots and the biggest drop belongs to the Lions after they lost to a winless team.
1. Denver Broncos (4-0; Prev. 2)
The Broncos are the new number one team in the league. Trevor Siemian left the game with a shoulder injury after throwing for 68 yards and a touchdown and then Paxton Lynch then came into the game. Lynch was then able to throw for 170 yards and another touchdown. C.J. Anderson and Devontae Booker were able to combine for 79 yards and a touchdown. Their defense was able to cause three turnovers and lead their team to another victory. At this point this team is going to be tough for anyone to beat, but they face an Atlanta team that is playing really good offensively.
2. Minnesota Vikings (4-0; Prev. 3)
The Minnesota Vikings are clearly the best team in the NFC and their defense looks really good right now. They haven’t allowed more than 16 points in any game this week and have forced eleven turnovers so far this season. Jerrick McKinnon had looked better and better since Adrian Peterson went down with his injury. If he can continue to get better, this team might be able to make a good playoff run. They have a tough challenge this week as the Texans are coming to town, but their defense should be able to force a few more turnovers.
3. Pittsburgh Steelers (3-1; Prev. 4)
The Steelers are back. This team absolutely dominated the Chiefs on Sunday night. Le’Veon Bell was able to rush for 144 yards in his return. Ben Roethlisberger was able to benefit of the pressure being taken off of him and was able to throw for 300 yards and five touchdowns. Their defense was also able to hold the Chiefs to 14 points and both of those touchdowns came in garbage time when the game was already over. This week they have the Jets coming to town for a god matchup.
4. New England Patriots (3-1; Prev. 1)
Jacoby Brissett wasn’t able to duplicate the success that he had in week three and the Patriot defense was unable to slow down LeSean McCoy and the Buffalo offense. They need to get back to good defense if they want to get back to the top of the league. Tom Brady is coming back this week though and he should be on fire coming out of the gate. Anytime fans or the league are down on Brady, he plays better than anyone in the league. This is bad news for the Browns as they will be his first victim of the season.
5. Green Bay Packers (2-1; Prev. 5)
The Packers had the week off after their best game of the season. Their team was able to rest and get ready for the rest of the season. They have the Giants coming to town this week and need to win in order to keep up with the Vikings.
6. Seattle Seahawks (3-1; Prev. 6)
The Seahawks might have been the best team in the league for the last two weeks. They were able to travel to New York to face a good Jets team and beat them pretty handily. Russell Wilson was able to throw for 309 yards and three touchdowns and was able to connect with Jimmy Graham for his best game since coming over from New Orleans. Christine Michael has really impressed and has taken over the number one running back role on this team. This week they have a much needed bye for Russell Wilson to get healthy and let their line figure out how to protect Wilson better.
7. Philadelphia Eagles (3-0; Prev. 8)
The Eagles were able to jump a spot without even playing this week. Carson Wentz had some time to reflect and learn from the three games he has under his belt as he is looking toward the future. They should have a fairly easy time this week as they travel to Detroit team that hasn’t looked good recently.
8. Cincinnati Bengals (2-2; Prev. 9)
The Cincinnati Bengals had their best game of the season last week against a poor Miami team. AJ was able to catch ten passes for 173 yards and the only touchdown of the game. They were able to kick five field goals, but that won’t do that much against a better team. Jeremy Hill and Giovanni Bernard were able to rush for a combined 89 yards. They have a tough game this week as they travel to Dallas to face the Cowboys.
9. Houston Texans (3-1; Prev. 10)
The Houston Texans were able to get their third win of the season, but they did not look good against the Titans, especially for a team that had an extra three days to prepare. They weren’t able to get the ball to their best receiver, DeAndre Hopkins, until late in the fourth quarter. Brock Osweiler threw for another two interceptions, bringing his total to six on the season. He is going to have some more problems this week as go to Minnesota to face one of the best defenses in the league.
10. Dallas Cowboys (3-1; Prev. 14)
Ezekiel Elliott had his best game of his young career when he ran for 138 yards and a touchdown. He was able to show the patience, vision, and fight that the Cowboys were expecting when they drafted him. Dak Prescott has still not thrown an interception and was able to play another good game and this time without the left side of his offensive line and his number one receiver, Dez Bryant. This team is getting their best pass rusher back this week as Demarcus Lawrence returns from his suspension and they are going to need him when the Bengals come to town.
11. Oakland Raiders (3-1; Prev. 12)
There are only two unbeaten teams left, thanks to the Oakland Raiders defeating the Baltimore Ravens. Michael Crabtree had another good game when he caught seven passes for 88 yards and three touchdowns. He seems to be finding his groove as a Raider and should start to make Amari Cooper better on the other side. There are two major concerns with this team right now though, their running game and defense. They are currently splitting carries amongst three running backs and none of them are overly effective. Their defense gave up 27 points to a Ravens team that hadn’t scored more than 25 at any point this season. If the Raiders don’t figure out a way to turn their team around, they could fall off very easily. They have the Chargers coming to town this week and it should be a closer matchup then some people might think.
12. Kansas City Chiefs (2-2; Prev. 7)
The Chiefs got completely demolished by the Pittsburgh Steelers last week. They weren’t able to score until the fourth quarter when they were already down by 36 points. Spencer Ware was able to rush for 82 yards on thirteen carries, but that doesn’t do much when your defense isn’t making any stops. They allowed LeVeon Bell and Ben Roethlisberger to do whatever they wanted throughout the entire game. Luckily, they have a much needed bye week to figure out their defensive woes and should come back stronger.
13. New York Giants (2-2; Prev. 13)
The Giants have quickly gone from first to worst in the matter of two weeks in the NFC East. They got beat up on Monday night by one of the best defenses in the NFL and allowed Jerick McKinnon to run them over. He was able to rush for 85 yards and a touchdown as the Giants could not stop him. Orleans Darkwa was able to rush for 48 yards and their only touchdown of the game, but they weren’t able to do much else against the Minnesota defense. It should be another tough week for the Giants this week as they travel to Green Bay to face a well-rested Packers team.
14. Atlanta Falcons (3-1; Prev. 18)
Julio Jones is amazing and the Carolina secondary isn’t good. Therefore, Julio Jones + Carolina secondary = 300 yards and a touchdown on twelve receptions. The Atlanta defense was poor again, but anytime Julio Jones is able to take over a game like that, the Falcons don’t even really need a defense. This week should be interesting as their powerful offense is going to face one of the best defenses in the league when they travel to Denver.
15. Baltimore Ravens (3-1; Prev. 15)
The Baltimore Ravens lost their first game of the season when the Raiders came to town. The Terrance West was able to rush for 113 yards and a touchdown while Joe Flacco was able to throw for 298 yards and another touchdown. This was their best offensive performance so far as they scored 27 points, but their defense gave up 28. They were able to slow down Oakland’s poor running game, but weren’t able to prevent Derrick Carr from throwing four touchdowns. They need to improve their pass defense soon because their opponent this week, the Washington Redskins, have an offense that revolves around the pass.
16. Washington Redskins (2-2; Prev. 19)
The Redskins have looked stronger and stronger in the last two weeks. This past week they were able to get Jordan Reed more involved in their game plan against the Browns as he was able to score two touchdowns on 73 yards receiving. Kirk Cousins is still struggling a bit, but the more that they win, the more confidence that he will gain, and this offense could be frightening for other teams. This week, they will travel to Baltimore with a big matchup against the Ravens.
17. Los Angeles Rams (3-1; Prev. 23)
The Rams have looked better and better each week that they have played. They have won back-to-back road games against some good competition. Aaron Donald played his best game of the season last week and if he can keep up his momentum, then opposing offenses should be scared. This week they face off with the Bills in Los Angeles in a matchup with two surprisingly good teams.
18.Buffalo Bills (2-2; Prev. 29)
The Bills are quickly climbing these rankings as they have had two impressive wins in a row. Both of their wins have been surprising and decisive and they were playing two of the better teams in the league. LeSean McCoy looks more and more like the guy that everyone saw in Philadelphia and their defense has been impressive. With the exception of the Jets game, the Bills have allowed an average of ten points per game. That is especially impressive given their competition. This week they travel to Los Angeles for a defensive battle against the Rams.
19. Arizona Cardinals (1-3; Prev. 11)
The Cardinals just keep falling. They lost Carson Palmer on Sunday and could miss this Sunday as well while under the concussion protocol. Drew Stanton came in for Palmer and threw two interceptions to lead the Cardinals to their third loss of the season. David Johnson is still able to run, but he isn’t enough to bring up the passing game. Their defense did a good job of holding Todd Gurley to 1.7 yards per carry, but Case Keenum was able to throw for two touchdowns to take out the Cardinals. This week, the Cardinals are going to San Francisco for a matchup with another division rival in a must win scenario.
20. Carolina Panthers (1-3; Prev. 16)
The Panthers are in a freefall at the moment. Granted, they have lost to three above average to good teams, but their secondary hasn’t looked good for an entire game this season. Now Cam Newton is having concussion issues and is uncertain to play this weekend. The longer that he is out, the less likely this team returns to the playoffs this season. They have the Buccaneers coming to town this week and if they lose another division game then they can almost kiss their chance goodbye. If they were to win and Atlanta falls to the Broncos, then they will still be in the race.
21. New York Jets (1-3; Prev. 17)
The Jets have looked better than their record presents, the main problem has been quarterback play. Ryan Fitzpatrick has not looked good and isn’t doing his defense any favors. Their defense is good, but they can’t make up for all of the offense’s mistakes. They have a tough matchup this week as they go up against the Pittsburgh Steelers and their high octane offense.
22. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1-3; Prev. 20)
The Buccaneers had the misfortune of playing against the Broncos. Jameis Winston hasn’t had the sophomore campaign that Tampa Bay fans had hoped for. He has had nine interceptions in the last three games, but those were three of the better defenses in the league. They are facing another one this Sunday when they play a Carolina team that needs a win just as bad as the Buccaneers do.
23. Indianapolis Colts (1-3; Prev. 21)
The Colts looked really bad for three quarters of the game on Sunday in London against the Jaguars. This team needs to do a better job of protecting Andrew Luck otherwise he won’t make it through the season. He has already been hit 32 times, which is second most in the league, and he has been sacked 15 times, the most in the league. If the Colts offensive line doesn’t fix this soon, this team could be in trouble for the remaining twelve games. They have an easy opponent this week in the Chicago Bears, but it will be interesting to see how they adjust after a week in London.
24. New Orleans Saints (1-3; Prev. 25)
The Saints were able to get their first win of the season in Drew Brees’ first game in San Diego in eleven seasons. He didn’t have his best game statistically, passing for 207 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions, but it was a much needed win by him and his team. Mark Ingram was able to rush for 56 yards and a touchdown and their fullback, John Kuhn, was able to score three combined touchdowns on twelve total yards. They have a bye week this week.
25. Jacksonville Jaguars (1-3; Prev. 26)
Jacksonville got their first win of the season in London against a spiraling Indianapolis team. Blake Bortles was only able to throw for 207 yards and two touchdowns, but he was able to rush for another one and he didn’t throw any interceptions. Their defense was able to dominate for three quarters of the game, but they did let the Colts score 21 points in the fourth quarter as they attempted their comeback. The Jaguars need to do a better job of closing out games if they want a chance at their weak division. They have a much needed bye week this week and they need to come out of that on fire to start the second part of their season.
26. San Diego Chargers (1-3; Prev. 24)
The Chargers lost a tough game on Sunday because of some costly mistakes. Travis Benjamin and Melvin Gordon both fumbled the ball late in the game to give New Orleans the ability to come back and win. Philip Rivers had another good game as he threw for 321 yards and two touchdowns, but he also threw for an interception. Melvin Gordon was able to rush for two more touchdowns, bringing his total to six so far this season, but they haven’t been enough. Their defense needs to make some more stops and give Philip Rivers more chances to win games for this team. This week they travel to Oakland where the Chargers need to win or their season could be gone.
27. San Francisco 49ers (1-3; Prev. 27)
The 49ers looked really good in the first quarter against the Cowboys, but they couldn’t stop the two rookies when it mattered. Then Blaine Gabbert wasn’t able to lead his team the way that they desperately needed. The only reason for hope with this team so far is Carlos Hyde and was able to move the ball effectively, but the 49ers were unable to capitalize. The 49ers also lost their best defensive player for the season when NaVorro Bowman went down untouched with a torn Achilles. They have a tough challenge this week as a desperate Cardinals team comes to town.
28. Tennessee Titans (1-3; Prev. 28)
The Titans lost a close game against their rivals, the Houston Texans. They have been able to run the ball effectively as DeMarco Murray ran for 95 yards and two touchdowns. Marcus Mariota was only able to throw for 202 yards with no touchdowns and an interception. They need to figure out a way to get their passing game going if they want to have a chance at their weak division. Next week, the Titans will travel to Miami where they should win and get their team back on track.
29. Detroit Lions (1-3; Prev. 22)
Detroit is in a freefall at the moment. They have lost three straight games and haven’t looked good in any of them. They lost to an injured Chicago team that has no business beating anyone at this moment. Matthew Stafford only threw for 213 yards and two interceptions and it looks like they are really missing Ameer Abdullah. Their only touchdown of the game came off of an 85-yard punt return from Andre Roberts. Next up, they have a really hot Eagles team that is coming off of their bye week.
30. Chicago Bears (1-3; Prev. 31)
The Chicago Bears finally won a game this season. Jordan Howard looked really good against the Lions and seems to be a good replacement for Jeremy Langford. Brian Hoyer was able to throw for 302 yards and two touchdowns to lead this team the way that they desperately needed. The most impressive thing about this team was their defense. they were able to hold the Detroit offense to zero touchdowns and forced two interceptions. If they can build on this momentum, they could win some more games this season. This week they are facing a Colts team that has looked bad recently and is returning from their London trip.
31. Miami Dolphins (1-3; Prev. 30)
The Dolphins got beat up by the Bengals last week. Ryan Tannehill was only able to throw for 189 yards a touchdown and an interception. They were able to run for a combined 62 yards between four runners. This team hasn’t looked good at any point this season and need to find a way to win some games. Hopefully, Arian Foster can return soon to give them some relief. They welcome the Titans to town this week and hopefully the extra rest will help them be competitive.
32. Cleveland Browns (0-4; Prev. 32)
The Cleveland Browns came close to winning their first game again this week, but fell just short against the Redskins. Terrelle Pryor continues to be the most exciting player on any of the bad teams and should continue to be the focal point of the Cleveland offense. Isaiah Crowell was able to be productive when he ran for 120 yards and a touchdown and Duke Johnson was a good compliment back as he ran for 45 yards on eight carries. The Browns may be the worst team in the league, but they have plenty of players to make this team exciting in the future. They have a huge challenge this week as they face the returning Tom Brady and the New England Patriots.
